Codes and conventions of your chosen genre.

We were able to chose our own songs to make a music video for, I have chosen to do the song “Teddy picker” by the arctic Monkeys, from their first album, Favourite Worst Nightmare in 2007. The music video on youtube has 41 million views, which one of their more popular releases. I have chosen this song mainly because it is one of my favourite songs, and I feel it is best to have chosen a song which I enjoy, as I’m going to be working with it for months to come. I feel it has a proportionate mix of singing and instrumental, which would allow me to differentiate between narrative and performance shots. 
This music is an example of indie rock, which is upbeat and generally makes you feel good, and the guitar riffs generally give the song its character, giving them a good structure, these sorts of musical sections are conventions of alternative indie songs. Lots of drumming and guitar riffs make up the instrumentals of the song, no synthesized sound as this would go against what indie rock stands for. The lyrics are delivered at quite a slow speed, with the guitar mirroring the speed. Obviously the speed of the cuts and the 


Image result for arctic monkeysThe most obvious convention for the indie rock genre is the performance aspect, with guitars, drums, singing etc, and I will include this all in my music video.
The indie rock genre is also seen as being fairly distinctly British, and "sticking to your roots." This is shown in the original Teddy Picker music video when they go to the pub, walk along a typical British street, and play drums in their front room.
