This has increased the focus on tours and merchandise. For example, One Direction had lots of merchandise that fans would pay for, often north of £40 for a hoodie with a One Direction logo on it, and if a fan gets all the items, it can cost north of £200. This is especially important with fan bases, like that of One Direction, which had impressionable fan bases who would get their parents to buy the merchandise for them.
