Evaluation marking

Level 3 12–15 marks • There is proficient skill in the use of digital technology or ICT in the evaluation. • There is proficient understanding of the forms and conventions used in the productions. • There is proficient understanding of the role and use of new media in various stages of the production. • There is proficient understanding of the combination of main product and ancillary texts. • There is proficient understanding of the significance of audience feedback. • There is proficient skill in choice of form in which to present the evaluation. • There is proficient ability to communicate. Lewis uses an audio commentary on the Lady Gaga video to show codes and conventions of videos but gets some bits wrong such as the intertextuality and the 'high angle' shot He then uses a Prezi to pick out bits of his own video that follow these conventions but again, not always convincingly. Lewis has talked about his digipak in evaluation 2 but not his website. He appears to ha...

Production Work- marking

Video Level 4  The candidate is expected to demonstrate excellence in the creative use of most of the following technical skills: • shooting material appropriate to the task set; including controlled use of the camera, attention to framing, variety of shot sizes and close attention to mise en scene • editing so that meaning is apparent to the viewer and making selective and appropriate use of shot transitions, captions and other effects • recording and editing sound with images appropriately. Where a candidate has worked in a group, an excellent contribution to construction is evident. I'm actually blown away but what I've just seen! There are some issues- the guitar solo with the acoustic guitar in your lounge was a strange choice but there are actually some really lovely bits in that video especially some of the sections in Southend with the silhouettes etc. There is good timing with the edits and the video has dynamism throughout. 35/40 Digipak Digipak photogra...

Research and Planning- marking

Level 1 0–7 marks • Planning and research evidence will be incomplete. • There is minimal research into similar products and a potential target audience. • There is minimal work on shotlists, layouts, drafting, scripting or storyboarding. • There is minimal organisation of actors, locations, costumes or props. • Time management may be very poor. • There is minimal skill in the use of digital technology or ICT in the presentation. • There are minimal communication skills. • There is minimal care in the presentation of the research and planning. I don't understand why Coldplay's video is a viral video. I really liked the point about the credibility of an 'indie' band using product placement but I don't think you explained it very clearly. There's a lot of more adult themes in Alice in Wonderland! Why the post on semiology? Digipak post is fairly basic. I think the risk assessment post sums this blog up! Ok on record company. Lyric analysis is fine. If B...

evaluation two

Image
I wanted my digipak to portray positive emotions towards me as an artist. The bright and colourful images reflect this. This is shown in the picture of me playing on the swing, with a carefree attitude that the indie genre, and the Arctic Moneys in general, possess. There is direct address of me in this show, as I want my target audience to have fun with me, and enjoy the captivating music. The image in the top center of the digipak, shows how committed I am, as an artiste, to creating music, as the first thing people do when they get home is take their shoes off, but as I am so obsessed with the acoustic guitar, it it in the place of the shoes. I had a serious moment in my digipak, with the black and white shot of me holding the guitar. There is is a hart felt message from Alex Turner, showing his gratitude to the fans that support them by buying their music and going to their gigs. ive used font which stands out from the background, and is also fairly amatuer looking, to ...

I also got some feedback on my digipak. As mentioned earlier, the use of Blogger.com to get feedback was very helpful. Due to an error with saving my digipak on Microsoft publisher, the digipak I put on my blog lacked a “song list” at the end. This may have lost me marks on my digipak overall. If I could do this task again, I would allow time to get some more feedback on my digipak, as this could have allowed me to get even more creative with it’s design, and gain extra marks.

southend on sea risk assessment

Image
I spent a considerable time in Southend On Sea, as it was the nearest place for me, which had casinos and the "teddy picker" machines, which are a part of my illustrative narrative of the song. A possible risk in Southend on sea, was the short clip where I was crossing the road, during fairly busy traffic. There was a risk that I may have been distracted by the filming,  Me crossing the road

mood board of initial ideas

Image
I want my music video to have a contrast between the natural world, eg trees, snow, and the artificial world of gambling and casinos etc. This would link to the meaning of the song "Teddy Picker" which compares the artistes in the music industry, with the picking of toys from a claw machine. I would like to incorporate these aspects into my music video, so it feels like it all flows together, and has high verisimilitude. At the same time, I want the aspect of gambling in the video, to seem fun and fast paced, almost fast paced in the sense that when your'e gambling, you often don't give things another thought and end up losing lots of money, in a very short, fast time period. And this positive feeling is also what the music industry wants the artistes to think. There will hopefully be opportunities to lip sinc in the snow

Purpose of a music video

As mentioned in my previous blog post on product placement, this is a major reason behind the purpose of music videos nowadays, and often the only reason the video is being produced in the first place. A prime example of product placement dominating a music video is in DJ Kaled

media theory

Traditional Media theories Todorov's narrative theory - Narrative is basically the media term for story telling, so narrative structure is the way that story is told. This media theory refers to the theory that storylines follow a certain structure and never stray away from this. Tzvetan Todorov's narrative theory has 5 main stages... Stage 1 - A state of equilibrium is established Stage 2 - There is disruption to that equilibrium, through actions of something external, generally from the villain. Stage 3 - There is recognition from the characters about that disruption, thus beginning to set goals to resolve that disruption. Stage 4 - There are obstacles that need to be overcome to fix that disruption, again brought upon by the villains, to restore order again. Stage 5 - There is now a new equilibrium, and the situation is ultimately resolved.  Todorovs narrative theory isn't necessarily suited to music videos, as the narrative of music videos is far less compl...

Stereotypes in music videos

Stereotypes are the media's way of representing groups of people in a way that is easy for audiences to understand. For example old people are represented as grumpy and slow, and teenagers are represented as rebellious and trouble makers. Music videos often break this representation, through showing the represented group juxtaposing with the stereotypes portrayed on that group. For example the music video of Avicii's "Waiting for Love" features an elderly couple who are in love, and when the man wakes up without his wife, he goes on a pursuit across the country for her.

risk assessment

While acting for my music video it is important for me to do a risk assessment to prevent injuries.

analysis of music video- "when the sun goes down"

lyrics-   We are being taken through the song through the perspective of the singer, Alex turner. at the start of the song he observes a girl who is a prostitute , he seems to feel bad for her "So who's the girl there? I wonder what went wrong so that she had to roam the streets?" , but then observes a "scummy man" going to pick her up, showing his distaste for the man, taking advantage of her. "just give him half a chance I bet he'd rob you if you can" shows that this is a dangerous man that shouldn't be trusted, presumably a known criminal, showing that the girl is vulnerable being around him. The song could also be seen as an attack on Sheffield's stance on red light districts, which is where the members of the band were born, and at no point in the song was it looked at in a remotely positive way.. "can see it in his eyes yeah, that hes got a nasty plan amongst some other offences" once again showing the singers distaste for...

risk assessment- living room

Image
My living room was one of the locations where I was filming. This was in a scene when I was playing the guitar with the wallpaper in the background. there was no immediate danger to me, me in the safety of my own home. Something which could have been a risk was the heavy guitar, which could have fell on my feet, especially as I didn't have a strap to put it over my shoulder. However I was careful and kept it secure.

template for my digipak

Image
The most common template for a digipak is the simple booklet, which is read from left to right like a book. However their are many different design options for a digipak to go. For this research, I used the website  https://www.discmakers.com/templates/digipaks.asp to see the many types of digipaks, and choose which template I would like my digipak to have. the specification states that it must be a 6 panel digipak This is what the digipak looks like when it is fold up, plus what it looks like when it is opened up. The position of the disk inside the digipak can be on the right or left hand side of the digipak. Alternatively, digipaks can have a pocket inside of them, to hold additional information, giving opportunities for a more personal experience with the consumer, who may get exclusive information from it, or extra pictures of them. For my digipak, I have decided to use the 6 panel, 1 left tray format. This fits the more simplistic nature of the indie ...

analysis of 2 digipaks in my genre

Image
This digipak is by the arctic monkeys- whatever people say I am, that's what I'm not. This was a debut album, which meant it was very important at the time, for the band to make an impression on their audience. This definitely came across through the images used in the digipak. The colour scheme of this digipak is very bland (black and white) and almost shows that as a band, they have nothing to hide. They aren't pretending to be someone that they're not, and are instead just showing they're ordinary guys, not enveloped by fame. Additionally, this colour scheme mirror's the rather dark subject matter of the songs, which juxtapose with the typical boy meets girl romantic song, and tackles real life issues, like street violence and poverty. it's interesting how the front and the back cover link together, with the back cover showing the man crying, with the cigarette in his hand. This juxtaposes with the confidence shown in the front cover picture, a...
