Lyrics- This music video is an example of an illustrative music video, this just means the visuals tell a story from the lyrics, in Norris's case this is simply him walking home after his dad wouldn't give a lift home, which reflects the chorus of the song "I'm coming home to you" which is repeated throughout. The visuals definitely don't amplify the lyrics, "With my own blood in my mouth, And I'm coming home to you if it's the last thing that I do" appears as if Norris is in a sort of life or death situation, or at least a more serious situation than a walk home, and so this is more of a contradictive aspect, which is simple but effective, especially as the speed of the song is rather slow paced but upbeat, not taking itself too seriously.

Music/sound- The song chose in the music video his music video is by the Mountain Goats, called Sax Rohmer, and this is an example of the alternative/indie genre. The song is quite slow paced, no noticeable change of pace, and this is reflected in the cinematography, which has medium shots and long shots of Ben lasting around 4 seconds, nothing too ambitious and also no change of pace, mirroring the strolling through the high-street. The silence at the start is also mirrored by the establishing shots of the estuary, and the over the shoulder shot of Ben looking thoughtfully out to sea, establishing the setting and our character. This presents the song and the video as a casual, laid back experience, especially since Ben has his hands in his pockets constantly, acting carefree. this links to the indie genre, as a carefree, live each day as it comes attitide, is popular in the indie genres.

Genre- The genre is alternative indie, but it can also be described as singer song writer? stereotypically the type of people who listen to songs like "Sax Rohmer" aren't the most popular of people, and this is reflected with Ben Norris who is on his own throughout. Due to the music video not being a mainstream genre, the music video was able to be different, for example, there's relatively few close ups of Ben, and instead many of him walking away from the camera in a long shot, this differs from pop music videos were the artist wants all the attention on them. Maybe this is just for the sake of being different, in terms of mise en scene, this is amplified by Ben's visit to Primark, which isn't known for being a fashionable trendy clothes shop, and would never make an appearance as a setting in a pop music video. Perhaps he did this to show he isn't any different to the audience who listen to him, and he's just a down to earth teenager, trying to relate to his fans, so when he gets home the first thing he's greeted by is shouting from his parents.

cinematography- camera shots, angles, movements, lighting- the establishing shot at the start of the music video shows us the setting of the music video, and shows us his reminiscent nature, this makes the start of the music video appear more dramatic, and creates the sense that the journey Ben is about to take is more important than it seems. Point of view shots have been used at the start to show Norris's iMessage conversation with his Dad, drawing particular attention to his background, The Rabbit Proof Fence.

Edit- Unfortunately, Ben Norris's music video has been deleted from YouTube, meaning that I am unable to finish this textual anlysis, unforseen circumstances like this are always possible in this media coursework, and so I have learnt to download videos which I wish to use for research, using online YouTube converters. This also includes my own music video, as some people I know last year, actually got their AS thriller opening taken down, due to copyright issues.
