Ben Norris music video analysis

Ben Norris music video analysis https://youtu.be/2DvkYFyy2sQ Lyrics - This music video is an example of an illustrative music video, this just means the visuals tell a story from the lyrics, in Norris's case this is simply him walking home after his dad wouldn't give a lift home, which reflects the chorus of the song "I'm coming home to you" which is repeated throughout. The visuals definitely don't amplify the lyrics, "With my own blood in my mouth, And I'm coming home to you if it's the last thing that I do" appears as if Norris is in a sort of life or death situation, or at least a more serious situation than a walk home, and so this is more of a contradictive aspect, which is simple but effective, especially as the speed of the song is rather slow paced but upbeat, not taking itself too seriously. Music/sound - The song chose in the music video his music video is by the Mountain Goats, called Sax Rohmer, and this is an example of t...

history of the song

Image
Teddy Picker was released in 2007 on the 3rd of December, by the Arctic Monkeys, it was their 2nd song on their "favourite worst nightmare" album. In terms of narrative, the song is about the struggle for fame that people go through and the expectation that fame will actually come to people in the first place. The first verse summarises this well "they've sped up to the point where they provoke, the punchline before they have told the joke" This is another way of saying people want to get the reward of fame and fortune, ie the "punchline" before they have put in the necessary steps to get there, i.e the "joke." And so a joke with the best part removed is no longer funny, and Turner is comparing this to the hunger for fame people have, perhaps that he success is determined by their hard work. The repetition of this line exaggerates the point that Turner is trying to make that he disliked the way that these people act. The Arctic Monkeys ...

Lyric analysis

The arctic Monkeys song "Teddy Picker" is a song critiquing the attitude of the music industry, and is unique in that sense, as it isnt about a typical love theme which most songs go for. They've sped up to the point where they provoke       The punch-line before they have told the joke                         Plenty of desperation to be seen Staring at the television screen. Turner is criticising society in terms of the sense of the instant gratification attitude that exists with people who are hungry for fame, using the metaphor-"sped up to the point where they provoke the punchline before they have told the joke" they want to get he end result, i.e. the punchline, before they have actually put the effort in to get there, in the case, telling the actual joke. This is different to what the Arctic monkeys did, as they had to put out multiple albums to become as well kno...

record company- Domino records

Image
The Arctic Monkeys are signed to the British independent record company, Domino Records. This is fairly rare for such a well known band to be signed to an independent record company and not the oligopoly, which represent 70% of the music industry, with the conglomerates Sony, Universal and Warner being known as the "big 3". The ownership of the Arctic monkeys being an independent record company is significant to the indie rock genre, as with independent labels there is less obligation for the band's music to change in order to reach chart success and sell more records, and it is fairly uncommon for indie rock music to be commercially successful, this means they can continue making the music their core audience want them to make. Additionally, the Indie genre is fairly persistant with artistes sticking to their routes, not "selling out" from their fans, and an independent record label fits this idea . There is also a sense of "Britishness" in terms...

seeking permission

Image
It is important for me to seek permission when using someone else's music, because plagiarism is a big problem in the music industry, and content is often taken down on the internet by the company that owns it, because often on sites like YouTube people will try to monetize  This will cover me for copyright issues, Because of this I will give Domino records credit in my music video. Domino Record's "contact" section on their website. Add caption

Risk assessment- woods

Image
The specification states that we must put risk assessments for each location, this is to deal with any risks while filming, and how to prevent them. My first location I filmed in was in my local woods. One risk could have been tree roots, which could I could have tripped over. This could have been fairly severe, as I could have hurt my ankle. To prevent this, I wore appropriate footwear, as well as always looking where I was going.

digipak moodboard

Image
This digipak shows how the theme should be  consistent throughout the digipak, to go with  the feel that the albums trying to portray. I will do this in my final digipak by using pictures of me performing and holding the  guitar, not pictures that juxtapose with each other This digipak shows me how the design of a digipak  can be fairly simple, with pictures of the night sky and titles on a black background simple, yet so effective at the same time, I will bear this in mind when creating my digipak, as well as taking into account the contrasting colours which make the text and the pictures stand out. I like how the same image of the artiste continues  over  3 separate pages of the  digipak, this stands out to the customer   when  you  open it, and almost gives  the  impression that the  artiste is  so iconic  that they  require  3 pages rather than one, ...

What is a digipak?
